Hunger?
Correct: that’s what it is all about, hunger, a compendium of maxima moralia to read and see without loosing sight of two independent and parallel tracks, one writing made of ink, one of light. Mind: the images are not simple illustrations, the writing is not simply captions. Satiety, if it isn’t disgust already, is reached gradually only at a point in the infinity, that geometric place of celestial abstraction where both signs are like the fading trail of a meteor or the reflection of an asteroid.
Of an asterisk, rather. That’s the point: that small mark made of manifold points that doesn’t mean much apparently but instead specifies something else that doesn’t show at a first glance.
Hunger? I can see and read against the light a satire of good manners, a comment on vice, an antidote against violence, an evangelic parable. A minor tremor of the Earth that eventually brings to anorexy rather than to nourishment at the sight of those bodies parched by light, ready to make any
TV set burst with anger, burnt alive by indigestible rounds of commercials.

A reading for all seasons:
cool to soothe summer's heat,
romantic to go with autumn's melancholy,
enthralling to assuage winter's cold,
full of life to go with spring.
A true story told between reality and dream,
with real-life and day-dreamt encounters,
in magical and crude experiences,
with strong and tender emotions,
between sweet and bitter memories,
but always with a great longing for life,
which the reproductions of the 28 watercolours by Delio Meinardi
underline and accompany.

This word is given ever so many meanings, either pleasant or unpleasant.
The author suggests some, in few words and a few images.
The themes, only just touched, testify to some doubts, sometimes to a certainty... like the shadows.
And certainties can be reassuring... or alarming. Like the shadows.
Most images come from photos, most of them processed. They are ... shadows of reality.
Now, as you know, we happen to get muddled up, in the reality: do we hit it, in the shadows?
Everything considered, this is an attempt to cast a shadow on shadows in the hope it might... shed a light on them.

Asociality, indifference, bullying clutter our days.
We live sunken in ignorance, bad taste and plain violence.
But then, those who act so are no Martians... rather he, she is one of us, could be our neighbour...
and doesn't look so uncivil when near us.
Could it be a matter of contagion? But then again... we might ourselves be or become so.
Like that? Let's try and live these actions as if they were ours:

what would happen to us, how would we feel?
Would we get caught by uneasiness, the witness of a vital reactivity,
or by indifference, the witness of a bleak future?
Of the numberless discrediting evidences surrounding us,
some, easier to document, more widespread and at hand in our days,
have been photographed and collected in this volume.
Using photos today is quite a hazard:

with the coming of computers such fakes are possible as they can't be told from the real thing.
Let's hope that, in a few years' time, no one will believe them to be the real testimonies
of our life at the turn of the century.
